Eat Pray Love

I know, you read a lot of reviews about “Eat Pray Love” everywhere and I really tried hard for some time not to read this book. Then I read it and tried not to like it but that is even harder. It is an amazing novel!

I find this story so fascinating because not only I read it but my mum and her cousin read it as well and my mum and me really could identify with the Italian section and liked the Bali one and my mum’s cousin just loved the part in India and could not identify as well with the other two.
This kind of proofs that everyone reads this book differently but I think everyone takes a certain message out of it.

So, as you can read, I really liked it. I liked it so much that I went and bought “Committed” as well but did not have the time to read it. Now I think I will wait until the Christmas holidays – or not.

The book tells part of Elizabeth Gilbert’s life after her 30th birthday. She is married, has a house and she and her husband are trying to get a baby but one night she realizes that she just don’t want that. So she struggles through a nasty divorce and some really terrible months and another bad relationship until she decides to give up her life in the States for a year and travels to Italy, India and Bali.

I don’t want to spoil the story for you so I won’t tell you the whole story – just read the book. It is worth it. Maybe you have to struggle through the first few pages but when Elizabeth finally arrives in Italy the book is just so wonderful.

I also saw the Hollywood film with Julia Roberts as Elizabeth Gilbert. Kind of free interpretation in some parts and I would have appreciated if the part where she is in India would have been shorter but the film is also very good.

I highly recommend reading this novel even if it is so in right now.

Coffee House Mystery

Some time ago I found some really great books by Cleo Coyle
The series is called Coffee House Mystery and is so wonderfully written.

The story is about a Claire Cosy who returns to New York City to manage her ex-mother in laws Coffehouse "The Village Blend" in Greenwich Village. Also part of the story is her ex-husband Mattheo, the Village Blend's coffee buyer, Madame, Mattheo's mother and the owner of the Blend and Claire and Mattheos daughter Joy.

In the first book "On what grounds" a muder takes place in the coffeehouse and Claire starts to snoop around. She unravels the whole story around the crime and in the end it is her who solves the murder.
In "Through the grinder", the second book, Claire gets involved with a man who had relationships with several other women who committed suicide. It is clear that Claire has to investigate. Was it suicide or was a murderer involved?

The stories are all thrilling and absolutely fabously written and at the end of each book there are some recipies for special kinds of coffee, brownies, cookies and many other goodies.

While reading I was able to see the whole action before me and I could also smell the coffee. So try to read it with coffee in reach - you will really want one.

Sharing ...

This is part of my bookcase.
All books are stored there in at least two rows and there isn't that much space left.
I just hope that I will soon find the perfect solution for storing my books because I really really run out of space.
I store my books by language and genre. So all English books have a different shelf than the German ones and German crime is stored seperate to German fiction or literature.
I am one of those people who think that a bookshelf tells a lot about the person. I think houses without books are a little bit spooky. I know that not many read as much as I do but I hope that everybody reads at least a bit (but I fear that this isn't the case either).

So speaking of reading, I will now go and start reading Josephin Humphreys' "The Fireman's Fair" for university.

Welcome!

I am a real bookworm!

People who know me will nod because it is so true.
I cannot remeber the last time I left the house without a book in my bag. I carry one with me even when friends collect me from my house and bring me back after the evening at the pub. I don't really know why I am taking a book with me. There never is even a slight chance that I will get bored but I am prepared.

What is reading for me?
Reading a good book, which fascinates me, is like living someone elses life for a while. Not that I don't like my life. It is just a way to escape the routine, to enjoy my life a wee bit more (by the way, I am more drawn to American English but I just love the word "wee". It sounds so tiny and superfunny, kind of like a small creature.).
For me reading is definitively a way of relaxing. That's why I was the only one who read three books during a week while on vacation with some friends. The others slept, talkes or listened to music - I read.

I don't really know why I start this blog now. Maybe I just want to document how much I read, tell people what I read and why I like it. I don't know. We will see what will happen to this little blog.

I just wish you all a good night and I will now go to bed and read a few pages.
So, I am off to the Yorkshire Dales in England
